GREAT BAY –A remarkable blend of beauty and creativity graces the island of St. Maarten this week with the hosting of yet another Stile Diva – Caribbean World Beauty and Barber Tradeshow. The historic event features a host of local and international fashion designers and models with styles and designs as unique as the many cultures of the island. Opening last Saturday with an acclaimed hair and fashion show, the 7-day event showcases the talents of models out of Toronto with the likes of Alicia Banton, Sabina Misiek, Nicole White and Renee Thompson along with Peter Cicco and Curtis Kester Caesar.

It also features local and Canadian acclaimed makeup artists and clothing designers. In an impromptu interview with the this newspaper yesterday the models and designers alike, most of whom have never been to St. Maarten, complemented the organizers for what they describe as a life altering experience. For most this is the first international runway event in their short careers.

The young ladies, all between the ages of 18 to 21-years-old say they consider the experience here on the island as one that would definitely serve as a catalyst for a ground breaking career in the modeling and fashion industry. It is also being seen as great exposure with the young ladies and men, given the opportunity to interact with the designers on a personal level –building on their careers as models and creating their own avenues for development.

Although most of the designers whose products are being showcased are relatively new to the industry, the response from the public has been considerably favorable and judging from all indications this may be the beginning of an exciting and fruitful career for them all.
